What is prosody?
Prosody is how you say what you say. Also known as the sound of punctuation. Tone of voice, vocal quality (ex. Vocal frye), pitch, volume, musicality of speech, chunking, pauses, silence, filler words. Everything about speech aside from the words. (But not including other forms of nonverbal communication such as facial expression, gaze, body language, etc. Those are their own thing.)
Sometimes we use tools in textual communication to convey prosody.
I could write:
Sometimes we use TOOLS in textual communication, to convey…pro-so-dy.
Or:
Sometimes! We use tooooooools in textual communication to convey PROSODY.
Want to learn more about nonverbals and consent? Try this recorded class.
Learning the term prosody was so expansive and eye opening, it was like I saw something I couldn’t unsee. All of a sudden I was able to make so much unconscious communication (outgoing and incoming) conscious. Share what it opens up for you in the comments

I’m much more comfortable with the tools in text communication because I can take so much more time to think about them! I want to learn more confidence in how to use my spoken words, including prosody
